Is anyone on here an ambulatory wheelchair user? I'm 18 and have fibromyalgia, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to walk so I'm currently researching if a wheelechair may help me. I didn't want to ever get to this stage and so I'm having trouble accepting it. Does anyone have any tips for accepting it or for choosing a wheelechair? Feel free to private message me an answer. Thanks in advance! <3

I am 19 and mine is also slowly getting worse and I’m trying to get hold of a walking aid. I’m afraid one day I’ll have to use a wheelchair. I hope things get easier for you and I wish you all the best 💕

I have fibromyalgia and I am an ambulatory wheelchair user, though I usually use it for POTS. Feel free to DM me with any questions you may have!

I am an ambulatory wheelchair user, I will say, if you're going to be using it a lot, get a good quality one. You will also come across many accessibility issues you may not have thought of before. Though if you have a support system, you can overcome these. Try to find one with a pocket in the back to put a spare cane or stick to help you stand if you need. Accepting it was hard for me at first too, with being such an active child. But I've cone to realise that my body sends me these messages to protect me. While some may be a little excessive, they still send messages. To rest a little, not push myself too far, and give myself a little grace. You should too. You may only need the chair for a little while, or you may need it for life. You can get accessories for them to make them feel more like you too. I hope you do alright, message me if you need.

I have gotten my wheelchairs through insurance, meaning they have all been basic Drive chairs, prescribed by my primary care dr. This has largely been for cost purposes though, as I am not comfortable sitting in it for long periods. I am starting the journey of trying to get my hands on a custom chair, which I know will be a much bigger process.

hey!!! please try a wheelchair, my main ‘complaint’ is fibromyalgia and the wheelchair has changed my life, although i do need someone to push me or it doesn’t help at all. I have a mobility scooter which i found helped me alot more as i can decide where i’m going, without depending on someone to push me around 😊 hope this helps x

@spookyspoonie Okay. Do you have any advice? I'm very stuck and it's all very overwhelming.

Hi I’m in the same situation! My mobility has really decreased and walking more than 5 minutes is painful. I’m looking into a wheelchair but I feel lost at where to start. It’s an overwhelming thing to realize you can’t do what you could 5 years ago, but as long as you’re doing what’s best for you, you’ll get through it. Things may be different but you’ll come out the other side. If you ever need to talk or anything my messages are open 💙
