I've been struggling with suicidal thoughts as a result of my mental illness for a long time, and I was wondering how some of you guys cope with it? my medications keep me from being really depressed, but don't really help with the thoughts. I've already talked with my doctor and such, but I'm not sure if there's any other things I could try, any tips?

Intrusive thoughts are always the worst. For me personally, I like to try and distract myself with some of my favourite activities. So, if I’m feeling any kind of suicidal thoughts or feelings, I like to draw a vent drawing, go for a walk, or play with my dogs or my pet birds. Talking to my pets and handing them reminds me that I have a duty to take care of them, so I should stay alive. I’m not sure if you have pets, but if you do try and think that way!

Try writing them down on a piece of paper and then SAFELY burn the paper if you’re able to. If not then just throw the paper in the trash

trust me i go through the same thing. what i usually do is cuddle with a plushie and take a nap, or do at least one self care activity, like taking care of my skin. REMEMBER: “You don’t need a reason to exist. you can simply just exist”. so if you need to find that reason, don’t rush the process ❤️ life has a plan for you and you will find out in equal time. If you plan on acting on these thought please PLEASE contact your local crisis line. you matter, and someone in your life needs you alive 💕 stay strong luv!

Best advice I can give is go to therapy if you can. Often times the best way to stop the thoughts is to find the cause and deal with it. That can be really hard without a therapist, but I recommend some self reflection. Are there patterns to the thoughts? Does anything trigger them? These are more long term though and won’t necessarily make you feel better in the moment. Try to share with a trusted friend of some kind too. You’ll be amazed how ridiculous your thoughts sound once you say them out loud!

I remember my goals. Things I want to achieve. Like the little things you wanna see happen.

Distraction or talk to them. I know that sounds weird but I will talk to my intrusive thoughts. Ex. “No one loves you” I start listing all the people who do love me. “You’re not good enough” I’m young and I’m learning every day, I can’t be perfect or the best when I’m just beginning, give me time and I’ll show you how good I can be. “You’re a burden” I do what I can and have open communication with people, they help me because they love and care about me and I do the same for them. Things like that, it gives me back control and the more I say it, the more I believe it.
