Do you still have self harm thoughts even with medication? If so how do you cope?

I make a list of all the things i can do to distract myself. I keep it with me all the time. Anytime i feel those urges i turn to my list and start engaging my thoughts on something else. I hold ice cubes in my hand until i feel a little calmer I get on the phone and talk about random stupid stuff just to pass time. I journal or meditate. Listen to relaxing music while practicing deep breathing. Go for a walk or exercise. Take a friend out for ice cream. These are some of the things i do until the urges get better

Ok this sounds really dumb - like really really dumb- but when I get intrusive thoughts about self harm I put them in Moira's voice (from Schitt's Creek). It takes the bite out. Somehow this works for me.

I have passive self harm and suicidal ideation regardless of my mood, even on medication. Many many of us do. I've found friends from self help and therapy groups with similar tendencies that I can vent to without raising any alarm. Being able to recognize those thoughts out loud helps

Distract myself with something I still enjoy or sleep.
