Curious about different ADHD medicationsšŸ™‚ Specifically extended release amphetamine ones. I just started my ADHD 6 mo ago & currently am on 60mg Vyvanse. I ve heard that Vyvanse is a popular one but Iā€™m not getting the results Iā€™m wanting. Would Adderall be a better fit? I heard some ppl even mix some of them? I honestly donā€™t know what Iā€™m searching to see if the meds are working? Im still all over the place, canā€™t keep conversation, forgetful, just all of the above. I know medication isnā€™t a cure all but was super excited to FINALLY have some help w/ this neurodivergent roller coaster ride Iā€™m on. But I feel the exact samešŸ˜•

      What are your expectations of the medication? I fell into the trap of setting myself expectations that the meds would never meet. Maybe have a think as it helped me heaps on the last trial on stimulants

      I prefer adderall to vyvance because adderall helps my mood so much more than vyvance did, and vyvance also made me nauseous all the time while adderall doesnā€™t. I take 30mg now (which is roughly the equivalent of 60mg vyvance) and it helps a lot. I feel like vyvance helped my adhd more, but Iā€™ve been hearing rumors that they changed the drug formula of vyvance and adderall to make them less effective (saving money by doing this), although my only evidence for this is tiktok videos and my personal experience so I canā€™t say itā€™s 100% true but it would definitely make sense if they did this.

        @katitomato so interesting! So many ppl knew this. And everyone seems to have left their position too. I'm the same way haha but as it was kinda. That me a quickly put back and shit and of you not Vyvanse it came be able ls, whenever you got it. I hope you they so so many resources on her

      I personally prefer Concerta. Adderall made my anxiety much worse. But everyone is different!

        @RainbowNarwhal what do you like more about concerta than Adderall? Have you tried other methylphenidate bases and/or amphetamine-based stimulants?

          @E_belli I'm really sensitive to medications, so I've only tried a few. I tried Adderall first and had a couple really bad anxiety episodes, so I stopped after a few days and felt better. Then I was taking Concerta for awhile, and it doesn't make me anxious and seems reasonably effective, so I stuck with it until the shortage forced me to switch to Metadate, which is definitely less effective. It also makes me dizzy sometimes and I crash pretty hard when it wears off. Hopefully I'll be able to go back to Concerta soon! šŸ¤ž

      I personally swear by Concerta XR (extended release); at different times Iā€™ve been on 36, 54, and 72 mg doses (been taking for 16 years). It was like flipping a light switch on in my brain when I started it. For me finding the right ADHD med was easy (*knock on wood*), it was the antidepressants that I had to run the gamut (thank you TMS!)

        @Seae this is so interesting! Concerta didnā€™t work well for me at all. It works for a client of mine too tho. Do you ever feel a crash at the end of the day? Or have have any side effects at night? 36 or 54 I think for me. Have you tried others?

          @E_belli I couldnā€™t say if it has any side effects at night as I was taking meds for insomnia and nightmares before I was even diagnosed with ADHD.

          @E_belli Thatā€™s why I take the XR. It takes 36-72 hours to completely leave your system. Methylphenidate is prescribed in three forms: instant release (Ritalin: 2-4 hours), sustained release (Ritalin SR: 3-8 hours), and extended release (Concerta, 8-12 hours), with the times being how long itā€™s at peak levels in your system. Due to the current Adderall shortage which dominoed into a Concerta shortage, I am currently taking the Ritalin SR which is not good, previously was taking Ritalin immediate release, which was even worse for me. At one point, years ago, I tried Strattera because I have an extremely high resting heart rate (130-160+ bpm unmedicated), so stimulants were non optimal. It did less than nothing. Iā€™ve resigned myself to binging old tv shows (watching each ep multiple times to get all of it), and knitting semi-productively until I get proper meds back (which is currently Concerta XR 54 mg). Sorry not to be more helpful, but again, this was the one time the first option worked for me.

      Vyvanse 70mg hit the right spot for me. It was a miracle drug. It doesn't cover everything of course. But it is my favorite med/aka most effective. I used to take it on work days only. And then was pointless on the weekend. So I started taking it every day and it works great. I tried Concerta which is not an amphetamine, it is methylphenidate. And I hated it. The crash was harsh. And made me so emotional and irrational at the end of the day. It was terrible.

      Vyvanse made me so irritable! I prefer Adderall. I take one XR in the morning, one in the afternoon and it seems to do me just fine. There are others out there, too, but I have only taken the two.
