Hello! I have not been *officially* diagnosed with OCD, but my therapist and doctor agree that there is a high likelihood of me having it. One of my major things is picking at my skin. Does anyone else struggle with this and do you have any tips to avoid doing it?

Oh no way I didn't realize those might be related for me. Personally small fidgets like spinny rings work best for me since they are more on the downlow and stuff. Otherwise another option is to tape or use band aids to cover the fingers after they've been picked. Personally for me if I see a loose piece of skin or acne or something I feel the urge to "fix" it, so if I end up peeling skin sometimes I'll put funky band aids on them

yep! if you're not bothered by impracticalilty, gloves work wonders, especially nice thin dressy ones rather than the kind to keep your hands warm. i always keep lots of bandaids with me, and my friends know they're allowed to do anything they have to in order to stop me picking, even if it means restraining my hands. it sometimes feels annoying in the moment, but i know that when my friends tell me to stop picking, they're doing it because they care about me
I have OCD and I notice that if I don't have a fidget toy I pick my skin, bite my nails, and pull out my hair. It doesn't have to be an actual fidget toy, you can quite literally use bracelets or rings to fidget with or make a necklace with a whole bunch of rings on there. It's discrete and gets the job done so you're not picking but also focusing on what you need to do
@Fidgety_TG now that I think about it, I do actually default to fiddling with my bracelets when I'm trying to distract myself haha
@Darth_Kittius yes haha I do it absentmindedly.. that's understandable. Sometimes fidgets can make you hyper focus on the fidget instead of it being a device used to help you focus. It's different for everyone and I experience both sides. You'll find what's right for you eventually! You got this!
