What makes a person with adhd qualified for meds? I just got diagnosed and have pretty severe symptoms and believe I should be on one how should I go about it? Any other experiences you would like to share?

But all ages can get medication if needed. Your psychologist could refer you to someone if you ask or you could try searching on your own as well

The diagnosis makes you “qualified” for meds! I’m pretty sure unless you have a history of substance abuse, if you’re diagnosed you can get them. Not everyone with ADHD will want them, but if you do you should seek it out. Often general practitioners can prescribe, but if they won’t you can get a referral to a physiatrist. :)

@A_Dog you’ll need to have a psychiatrist or possibly primary care doctor prescribe them. Recommend the psychiatrist as they understand the medication and will get you on the correct one and dose vs a regular doctor does not specialize in This and will likely give you the basic one size fits all option

From what I've heard with adhd, if you think you need meds, you probably do. I just talked to my psychiatrist about it and she agreed and we've been trying to find the dosage I need but it's already been a HUGE help for me

@CowgirlKenzie that seems to be exactly how it’s gone in my experience for any disorder they really let you lead the way. If you feel you need medication for something they usually will give it to you and see if it helps
