@Eren2273 very good point. Thank you for pointing that out.

I wish I knew. It would have saved me a lot of time, energy, loss of property, and heart break.

The best way I know how to tell if a friend is true or fake is to ask these three things: (my counselor told me this) 1. Do I trust them completely? (will they keep a secret, will they steal from me, etc) 2. Do they REALLY know me? (who I am and what I like) 3. Do they have MY best interest at heart? (or will they manipulate me to get what they want?) If the answer is no to any of these questions, then they are fake friends. A true friend has your best interest at heart, whatever the situation. They accept you for who you are, will want to know everything about you, and will never make you feel bad for being you. They will not manipulate you in any way.

@dolphinblues This is great, but I would like to say 2 wouldn't work the best with people who experience memory loss. They might forget things about you without wanting to. We feel terrible every time we forget something about what someone likes, etc. So if the person you're thinking this about experiences memory loss, you might want to change 2 to something else like "do they want to learn more about me?"

They fall out with you for something you haven't done and constantly bring you down but when you've eventually fallen out they do the exact thing they've fallen out with you for

They don't invite you to things, they treat you badly, they only go to you when they need something, they're manipulative, etc. There's a lot of things

they only hit you up when they need something from you
