How do I explain to my husband that my depression and anxiety gets super bad if I sit around the house and let chores pile up? He's used to get doing chores whenever or late at night, but when I see it it makes me uncomfortable and gross. I feel a pressure to get it done or it'll just get worse and I'll feel horrible. I get into a working mode to finish everything up quickly and he gets upset because he wants to help but is too slow and doesn't want to do it then and there. Any tips?

I’d explain it just how you explained it the post that when the chores aren’t done it makes you feel worse mentally so you’d prefer it gets done earlier and a loving partner will understand that and try to do their best to help you out.

My wife and I had a similar situation wherein she couldn't stand any clutter on the kitchen counters. I was not aware of this. When she asked me to clean up, I was always cleaning up the wrong thing. When you and your spouse are both in a good and calm headspace, sit them down and talk. Let them know that you're not trying to get them to solve everything. Let them know that you're not blaming them for anything. But do let them know that you have anxiety about mounting chores. Then, you can get into scheduling things, like dishes have to be done by X time, garbage has to be out by Y Time, kitchen counter has to be cleaned off before bed, Whatever you find works for the two of you. Give it 3 weeks to get into the habit of doing things that way, and reassess your anxiety. Also a great time to ask if there's anything that you were doing or not doing that was causing him stress. It's great when you can both Take some stressors off of each other's plates.
