Has botox injections helped any one? I have been on all kinds of medications with no relief. I have horrible migraines that last for days. I generally have to go to to my primary care physician for a tordol infection or to the er for what they call a migraine cocktail. Botox was the Dr's next suggestion so I'm just curious if it has helped anyone.

I have been on sumatriptan, which helped somewhat. Now taking Nurtec (better and quicker in terms of relief). I used to be on Botox for my migraines (I had them for days and also have my fair share of migraine “cocktails”, unfortunately about year ago my insurance stopped covering the cost and I had to pay cash which I couldn’t afford (over 2k) but it was by far the most effective treatment. I did Botox injections for about 4 years. Now I’m doing monthly injections (Amivog) and it’s almost as effective but not as good as the Botox; With the Botox I had 1-3 migraine in a month and Amivog I average 2-6 a month. So a slight increase but still better than the 20+ I was having.

Migraines started when i was 29 along with a few autoimmune diseases. Definitely hormonally related for decades. Chemo (AC) was the only thing that actually really helped (only a few a month). Then about 9 months later, i let the oncologist give me a Lupron shot for both the cancer and for migraines. Backfired. Brought on daily migraines for next year and 70% the next. Anyway, the point is that after the fact, my primary doc said that he would never recommend an injection med for migraines. (He also gets migraines). Reasoning is if your body doesnt like it, its too late. You can't stop it. My oncologist didnt even take responsibility for it. He was convinced that the return of the migraines wasnt his fault as it should have only lasted a month. He may know cancer but sucked at migraines. So, i recommend caution. Also note in the Botox commercial. They mention what something like 90% of current Botox users wish they had asked their doctors for Botox earkier. So misleading. If Botox didnt work or had negative effects, those peolle wouldnt be "current Botox users".

@55isMe Dont know if you've ever had luck on triptans? They are each very different for me. I lucked out joining a HMO back in 1993 that allowed docs to prescribe imitrex (injectables back then and only a 2 pack per prescription). But, from no relief to 10 minutes to being able to function. When they came out in tablets, limited to 9 a day, i split into 1/4ths (doc okayed). And since, i primarily have morning migraines, i have been using daily now for 30 years straight. Doc is okay using it as a preventative. And i dont seem to have any issues if use more or less due to conditions. Just a though. There are many newer meds, but im sticking with what is typically guaranteed for kill the migraine.
My doctor prescribed me Nortec with the Botox and that’s really helping. I’ve only been taking it for two months and that’s just one tablet under the tongue and it lasts about A month.
Hello. I’ve been on Botox for five years and it only helps me 50%. It was better for the first two years.
@Adana thank you for your reply. I've been struggling with migraines since I was a teenager (40+ years) I don't want to lose hope that there is something that will help.
