      @ROSE1990 I'm also 32 and my mom is also controlling and abusive. It's stressful and makes me depressed. Limit the time with her..stress and anxiety cause high blood pressure. Exercise helps and limit salt. Try meditation

      Also consider getting checked for sleep apnea - it can cause high blood pressure and being overweight and can seriously affect your heart health. If you have daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, and/or people have told you that you've stopped breathing while you're sleeping, it's worth getting checked.

      Being in relationships with controlling people will definitely be stressful. If you can set some boundaries with this person and reduce your interactions with them (or stop altogether) it might help, besides that it would be emotionally healthy not to stay in relationship with abusive people). Also perhaps consider talking to a counselor or therapist if you have not already done so. As far as things you can do to lower your blood pressure, one thing you can do is watch your diet. The DASH diet is designed to reduce high blood pressure- it was designed by mayo clinic researchers for that specific purpose - DASH stands or Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Managing weight, watching sodium intake, exercise, getting enough sleep, and stress management are things that can help.

      Knowing you are already exercising, I'm going to be blunt and say most likely, meds are the way to go. You can reduce some stress by setting boundaries, but a controlling person will continue to try to batter those down and you will have stress. Plus, life comes with stress. I wish I could give you a magic solution, and things like meditation and counseling may help, but medication is likely necessary.

      I’ve noticed that my blood pressure readings drop after I exercise for a few days? I assume if I keep doing it it’ll stay low, but that may not work for everyone!

        @LyricRainn111 I exercise 6 TIMES A week
