Next weekend I'll be having a phone call with my dad, whom I have spoken to in about 2 years. he's always been dismissive of my experiences, trauma, mental and physical health. he is also a source of past trauma. I'm having the phone call because he wants to meet and show me how he's changed. I immediately had flashback and an anxiety attack when I heard that. I'm still extremely nervous about talking on the phone with him. anyone have experience reconnecting with someone and how to do it without hurting my mental. These past years not dealing with my parents has been such a relief but people around constantly make me feel bad about it

      This is not a Convo I want to have but at the same time I miss having a family or what a family should be. My mother also has a history of suicidal ideation and I've been worried about her. I have a good support system with my husband and my therapist but I won't be able to see my therapist until February. I could push it off but I'm afraid if I do, it will never get done and I will avoid it forever..

      Hello ✋ I recently had to get in touch with my ex husband. He’s a significant source of my trauma. I hadn’t spoken to him in 4 years (been divorced for 6). I didn’t expect it to be triggering but it was. It put me in a weird/unstable emotional/mental place. I didn’t expect this so I didn’t prepare myself. Do you have the skills in place to prepare yourself and hold true to your boundaries to protect yourself? Also, you can postpone the phone call. You don’t have to let him have any power over the phone call. I hope this helped.
