Hello! I'm Marsie and this year I was diagnosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives.) It's taken over my life completely, so much to the point that it's disabling because of the swelling in my hands and feet and itching. It can keep me up at night and make it hard for me to walk. I'm looking for other ways to treat it, whether it's lifestyle changes or different medications. How do you deal with chronic hives and what do you recommend?

I take xolair shots every 4 weeks. That got me off of prednisone.

Hey there. Sorry to hear about your situation. I've had chronic idiopathic urticaria for about 7 or 8 years on and off with no tangible reason for the attacks. Sometimes it was pressure related and sometimes stress maybe. Last year I went mostly plant based and saw an immediate difference. I didn't need any antihistamines at all. I tried most antihistamines but was on the largest dose of Fexofendanine. I recently went on holiday and ate whatever for 3 weeks. I also needed my antihistamines againšŸ™„ Different things work for difference people so do try all the options. Good luckšŸ€

I would also recommend xolair. Helped with my hives a lot. I still itch but definitely not as many hives

Mpm11, did you find that the low histamine diet has helped you so far?

Iā€™m there with you itā€™s debilitating. I too suffer from hives. Iā€™m trying a new diet which I read has helped others called low histamine diet. Figured I would share although Iā€™m not sure if itā€™ll work for me. My allergist also mentioned xolair injections for the idiopathic urticaria.

well my chronic hives are definitely not as severe as yours, i have cholinergic urticaria so i only get them when i get hot or sweaty. i take zyrtec, up to four a day, and thatā€™s the only thing that somewhat helps me medication wise. i just wear looser clothing and drink lots of water to avoid getting sweaty so i donā€™t get a rash, but i would recommend seeing what you can do to prevent it without medicine, while also taking zyrtec. iā€™m not sure if zyrtec works for everyone, but it does help me a bit.
