Today when I go to work, I’m going to be honest. When some asks me how I am I’ll joyfully reply “terrible how about you?”

I’ve learned I can do that with complaint-buddies (we’ll just complain together and bond over it) and I see the most success from that!! That, or to make them laugh with it. Pain makes for the best jokes after all

Healthy people don't understand. I know. I was once a healthy person. I deflect. I don't like talking about my illness with most people. I say ok and ask questions about them.

I tried being more honest like that and it didn’t go that well in my experience. It weirds out and alienated people who you want in your corner. If I’m having a bad day/week/month something like “it’s been rough but I’ll be okay” or “it’s been a long week” or “alright” with a shrug have been a good balance of being somewhat honest but also not making things awkward. Not telling you what to do, just sharing which phrases have worked for me.

@Tofu14 This is a fear of mine which is why I haven’t held to this post. The few hours I’ve been here I’ve just responded to “how are you” with “how are you” or lying 🙃
