I keep getting the urge to cut myself while cutting strawberries at work. I even sort of did, but didnt draw blood. How do I ignore these urges?

It may sound stupid, but during my recovery from self harm anytime I had an urge I’d color a rubber band with red marker and pop it on my wrist. It gave me the sting my skin was craving and left the mark I wanted to see without actually harming myself. And when in doubt, I’d think of a T-Rex making his bed.

Distract yourself by mindfully noticing the interconnectedness of all things and standing in awe at how magical the world really is for even existing, much less having this much complexity within. If you feel like you would benefit from less working hours, you can always give yourself some time off if your workplace grinds your gears. I take some powerful medicines to deal with my misanthropic feelings, including dextromethorphan and cannabis.

I’ve been having a lot of urges as well. I try to push through it and tell myself that self harm lied to me. It won’t actually help anything. And sometimes I get different type urges. Like my skin will crave it. I normally rub my natural calming lotion on those areas

I fill my mind with other thoughts, like of my pets or if things I can do later in the day, rather then focusing on intrusive thoughts, it’s not as easily done as said but it can be helpful, I still haven’t gotten to the point of completely stopping the thoughts but it’s a start
