Is anyone on a high dose of abilify for bipolar disorder? My new psychiatrist is concerned about my existing dose of 20mg as she thinks it’s too high. Wondering if anyone is on the same dose?

i’m currently on 30 mg (the highest dose) for bipolar disorder, with other meds, and i’ve had no problem. but everyone is different. if you’ve been taking it for a while with no negative effects, i don’t see why it would be such a concern, but i’m not a psychiatrist. i would just talk to her about why exactly she’s worried and figure out what works best for you! don’t be afraid to advocate for keeping your current dosage if you think it’s really helping you.

I was on the same dose and got a movement disorder causing Tourettic tics. It is considered a subtype of Dyskinesia. I would consider dropping the dose if you can. Abilify is also known to trigger compulsive disorders such as compulsive gambling and binge eating.

hey! i'm not on abilify for bipolar disorder, but i have a friend who is, and she's on a pretty high dose alongside other medications. not sure what her exact dosage is, but i do know it's higher than she originally anticipated. but it helps her A LOT and she knows it, and i think if your dose is helpful to you and not at all harmful, a high dose is not a bad thing.
