My new psychiatrist won't prescribe me ADHD meds even tho I've been on them before and they helped. What are other good ways to manage my ADHD?

When I don’t feel like taking my adhd meds, I’ve found that a good fidget toy works really well to occupy that part of my brain so I can focus on other things. We all have different fidget preferences so find what works best for you :)

Find another psychiatrist and ask about neurofeedback treatment
Go to another psychiatrist! All of them are different with what they are willing to prescribe. Or suggest with them maybe alternative medications that aren’t stimulants for adhd. Such as strattera. Showing that you aren’t there just to score substance controlled medication. Not sure how long you’ve been seeing your doctor but if you are new and asking for adderall they might think you are just trying to score drugs. If you aren’t a brand new patient, Try asking him the reason why he refuses to prescribe it.

I found them to be helpful before I stopped taking them. I do mostly like my psychiatrist. Unfortunately tho I'm in the OK area, but I appreciate the help
Did the meds help you? Do you like the psychiatrist other then this issue? If you have been on the meds for years and suddenly have to stop because of them that’s not fair or safe. I love mine and if your in the NY area I could give you her name.
If your ADHD is really bad and you need meds go to a different psychiatrist. You are entitled to a second opinion, and your insurance can't deny you one. Otherwise try reducing other stressor in your life eat right and excersize when you can. I found just cutting out a little bit of junk food and excersizing a little bit more helped a lot. It looks like you are on trazodone, that might be another reason your psychiatrist won't let you take ADHD meds. There might be an interaction they forgot to tell you about.
Thank you for the advice!
hi!! Psychiatrists can be tough to work with sometimes. I have always looked at my AHDH as a super power. So if i get distracted by somthing i will let it happen for a while (wether that is learning a new skill [i learned knitting and how to solve rubix cubes], exercising/ crazy random dancing in front of my mirror, talking to my roomate/calling an old friend or parents. then i will usally shower or eat to kinda reset my body and get back to school/work. I also found that a good consistent sleep schedule and diet has been helpful for getting my brain in to a consistent schedule. If there is some reason why you can't take a break try and listen to music so you can really hone into your work (i like "lofi girl" on youtube or "study fruits" and "all nighter" on spotify. Never think that medicine is 'nessassary' to 'control' your ADHD, use it to your advantage. It can make you stronger then others if you know how to guide your urges :)
