I see a somatic therapist who has helped me to feel into my body again (we are starting EMDR soon). I hadn’t realized my body shut down so hard to protect me from trauma. But after working with her, when I am in a spot where a flashback tries to happen, I am able to say, “I am not ready to tackle this, yet.” It’s sort of like standing in the doorway looking at it and deciding to go into another room, or put it in a box for when I have the support to look at it. It doesn’t always work, but it’s been a good first step. I hope this helps and I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. 💕

It can be challenging to understand where certain triggers come from, and frustrating when they have an adverse effect on other conditions. I remember being so plagued by flashbacks that were so heavy with emotion and pain that I could do nothing else but cry or sleep. While I don’t have an answer to stop the flashbacks, I would suggest doing your best to calm your body down. When we go into that reactive mode, it’s so difficult to be able to logically work out anything. Doing some deep breathing, taking a big drink of water, and finding something to ground you can help put you back into a safer mode. It’s important to use your senses and connect with your body in a way that makes sense for you. I know it can be scary, but in this moment you are in charge. You are safe and you are here. Once you feel more calmed down and in touch with your physical body, it’s often easier to work out the “why”. Try writing out what happened if you’re able, but remember to keep coming back to that grounded self before you try to do too much thinking. You’re incredibly strong, and you are not alone. Running things by others is a great way to get more insight.

DBT skills. You can find people explain them on youtube. I used them to stop flashbacks all together and help regulate my emotions so I don't get into that instense state

I don't have an answer for you. I can tell you I understand, as I've been there, am there. I use a self-care app that makes a huge difference. You could research grounding techniques. Then try a few out to find one or two that really work well for you. Journaling, maybe. Get it out of your head. My wish for you is peace. 💕

@Manna Finch. It is a subscription, but there is plenty to keep you busy for free. They have a support community on several platforms. I frequent the FB one.
