anyone have advice on how to motivate yourself to get out of bed? everything feels pointless and I really just want to lay here and rot but I have a cat to provide for.

I just throw myself on the floor and eventually I'm tired of being on the floor

I have trouble getting up after having settled in and it’s less about motivation for me. I would try using different reasons to get up and see what sticks. Telling yourself you’re just gonna brush your teeth and go back to bed might trick you to get going. Or just to get a snack. Anything that personally works for you. Also like to roll out bed by sliding down cause initiating the action of just sitting up is difficult.

As hard as it sounds, one thing that gets me out of bed some days is something my dietitian once said to me which was," sometimes, you just gotta put your feet on the floor and stand up." It is so simple, yet so hard to even think of doing some days, but I'll hear her saying that in my head and I'll roll over and just sit up to put my feet on the floor. Even when I dont want to, I just stand up. Another thing is to set short term alarms like you wake up, set a 5 or 10 minute alarm and tell yourself you HAVE to get up when it goes off, no matter how depressed or tired you may feel. Sometimes I gotta check in with myself about how I'm feeling and how I feel in my body. I'll state it out loud to just get the thoughts out of my head and get that verbal release before I get up for the day. Lastly, I make small goals and check lists for myself so I dont feel overwhelmed. Getting out of bed can be a goal or brushing your hair, drinking some water, etc.

i have a cat as well, he’s my baby. he’s what keeps me going every day. it’s hard for me to even shower most days, but what pushes me to get out of bed is taking care of him.
