Hi! I think i might have undiagnosed add but im not entirely sure how to go about getting a diagnosis for it/what the process is. I think i may have it because i have poor time management, i either cant focus on anything or put all my attention to one thing, ill set my mind to go do something and three steps in ill completely forget what i was going to do, i recently realized i get excited during conversations and cut people off, its hard to maintain important information, i lose things easily, start something and then move onto something else midway, and i have these phases where im kind of obsessed with something (right now its vampire history lmao). Im not sure if these are exclusive to add/adhd or if it could be something else so if you have any experience with this id be super grateful if you gave some advice!!

So I'm not 100% sure, but i believe psychologists aren't able to prescribe medications whereas psychiatrists can diagnose/treat/prescribe. my dr originally had me contact a psychiatrist but they wanted me screened/tested by a psychologist first, for whatever reason šŸ™‚

@foolofatook so if psychiatrists are for giving out prescription meds are psychologists for evaluating and diagnosing people?

I'm not diagnosed but pretty sure i have it-- so I got a referral from my PCP to see a psychologist for testing. After that, if i am diagnosed ADHD i will see a psychiatrist for possible medication.

@foolofatook ooh okay! And sorry if this is a dumb question but whats the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist? Are they not both capable of doing what the other can do?

@RaspberryyTea the main difference is that psychiatrists have a medical degree and can prescribe medications while most psychologists canā€™t. Thereā€™s probably more but Iā€™m not exactly sure

I had a mental hospital therapist recommend me to a place to get diagnosed! I suggest talking to a psychologist to get pointed to the right kind of doctor to test you! Good luck, my friend! :)

The first thing I would do is find a psychiatrist! They can diagnose you and manage meds if that's something you want to pursue! Good luck!
