Does anyone else have the horrible habit of apologizing too much to where people get irritated or mad at you?

I do this a lot. Its impulse, I'm not even thinking and a sorry comes out of my mouth. The funny thing is, I get frustrated at others for doing the same thing around me. Not really frustrated I guess, more "aggressively advocating that they're a good person" sort of thing. Like hey bub! Pick that self esteem up!

I do this even when it's not my fault. And I have BPD so I usually start crying. I usually explain that i have these diagnoses and people understand or Re at least more patient. I usually feel so stupid and ridiculous. Then i get mad at myself. Getting therapy though right now so I'm hoping it will help.

Self confidence and fear of not being accepted. Work on those. I once apologied for finding out my bf was married. He told me finding out was the issue( I spoke to an ex of his) and not the fact he actually lied to me. Gaslighting.

Yup, to the point that when someone tells me to stop apologizing I apologize for apologizing too much. Took a bit for my husband to get used to.

When I meet new ppl, I usually just apologize in advance, especially professionals... I'm just like, I'm alot and I'm sorry...or this is gunna seem crazy and I'm sorry, or you might have to deal with me long term.. again.. I'm sorry in advance

@nsiberian I do this too, though not as much as I used to. I know I can be a lot, too much for some people, I'm loud and obnoxious just because I'm German and Irish lol. But I always felt the need to apologize just for being me. Thankfully I've gotten to the point I don't generally do that anymore, it takes a lot to just be you and not be sorry for it.

I don't know if people get mad at me for it but I apologize for everything. My sister does as well and sometimes we poke fun at each other for it but not seriously at all. We live together so we apologize a lot to each other too, her husband doesn't but doesn't seem to mind that we do it.

I do it all the time and people keep telling me that there is no need for me to apologize but I apologize because the last 3 relationship I was always made to believe I was wrong and I was the one who needed to apologize.

Always. The one person I was talking to told me to stop apologizing and I apologized for apologizing to much. But when I explained to them what I went thru they understood and knew before I would apologize for something they would reassure me everything was ok
