My Dr is going to give me Ativan for a flight I'll be taking Wednesday to help with my anxiety. Has anyone tired that and what did you think? She wants me to try it before my flight to see how I react to it, she said it can cause drowsiness.

@pianochick , I don't feel addicted to adivan......I went from 6 MG a day to 2, and now back up to 4 since my kids threw me away.

I have been on Ativan for about 6 years. Yes it helps. Don't plan on driving a car or making serious decisions until you know how it will affect you.
@LaDayna oh wow! Really?? Ok I will definitely keep that in mind. I am only going to use it for flying
I took Ativan to sleep and help with panic attacks, and it worked. Unfortunately, it lost it's efficacy with me...had to take more as time went on. I tapered off of it because it wasn't doing anything anymore. It's a benzo, and they can be addicting. I ended up trying other methods to sleep, and now I "manage".
@pianochick oh no, I am so sorry that it stopped working for you. I have totally been there with horrible insomnia, it really is the worst. I am so sorry, I hope you found or find something that helps you ❤️
@LaDayna I'm sorry....life is so hard sometimes, and if you don't get sleep or can't relax, it's even harder. I hope things get better for you.💕
Ativan is so so so helpful for me. It is the only thing we've found so far that can disrupt a panic attack enough for me to be able to use coping skills. It does make you a little tired (it's in a class of meds that are sometimes prescribed as sleep aids so honestly I would hope it does) but it doesn't make me so drowsy I'm non functional
@ZenithZ thank you so much! I'm worried that if I take for the flight, I'll just be totally out of it from being so tired. I get that way when I've had a Tylenol pm, the next day I'm just so dead tired.
I was given an injectable first (Ativan) after an extremely bad panic attack which hospitalized me. It made me fall right asleep and when I woke up I felt so much better. It calmed me instantly. With the oral, I started taking it at night when I had anxiety that I felt would lead to another panic attack. It also calmed me down within 10 or 15 minutes, less of an instant effect but got the job done. It’s been the most helpful medication of all the meds I’ve ever had for anxiety. I did get really drowsy with it but if your flights long enough or even just an hour I’d allow yourself to nap through it. If you’re too anxious to nap though I think it would be fine to just stay up and distract yourself with something you enjoy! It made me feel warm inside and with some breathing techniques I was able to regulate my heartbeat when I felt my body getting worked up. I hope this helps!

@Bearr thank you! This helps alot! When you felt warm, was it like your body was over heating type and needed a fan to cool down?
@Ewok No, it was more of a fuzzy warmth in my body. I don’t know how to describe it exactly. If you’ve ever had alcohol it kinda feels like that, warm and fuzzy without the sick drunk feeling!
