Looking for some input/advice. I have dealt with allergies as long as I can remember. When I was like 5, I started Zyrtec and Flonase. This was in 2004, and I’ve just recently tried to change things up because I felt like the Zyrtec wasn’t helping me anymore. I tried allegra and actually felt worse, so my Dr put me on singulair. I’ve been on it for about a month, but can’t say I’m noticing a difference. I’ve also done things like bought an air purifier, I keep a humidifier running in my room, we’ve had our house checked for mold, etc. Just not sure what else to do but I’m always congested, having headaches, it disrupts my sleep bc I can’t breathe. Any advice would be helpful, thank you!

Oooh some else who drinks yogi ginger tea. I heard caffeine helps with allergies symptoms I can attest (including both green tea and coffee) but I can do it often and lately not at all because I also have Gerd (it also works nearly right away). And I also have severe severe congestion that prevents me from sleeping well. Food good for allergies include: Garlic (especially black garlic), stinging nettle, cloves, rosemary, spicy food, ginger, cinnamon, tumeric with black pepper, red onion help with allergies and stuffy nose. (But I can't take it all the time cuz Gerd) u can make some of these ingredients together in a tea (tumeric and pepper, ginger, cinnamon, rosemary, cayenne pepper, garlic, and onion with honey for tea- with lemon/orange juice and peels, and mint or can make it into a steam for your nose) I take Dr. Christopher sinus plus and Dr Christopher infection supplement to help with the infection in my nose along with the tea (at different times of course not together)

I sure wish I knew all the answers. I suffer daily with breathing issues caused by allergies. When I flare up I drink either Yogi Ginger tea with a spoonful of local raw honey. It almost always seems to bring some relief but not for long. I also drink Bigelow Green Tea with lemon. It helps to dry up secretions. If it’s near time for me to take my lorazepam I do that also. I live in a legal state for marijuana and I have my medical card. I eat two 10 mg, the lowest dosage, marijuana gummies twice a day if I am not driving. I take them for spinal fractures but I have noticed it really helps dry up my throat and opens my airways. All of my practitioners are aware of this and not concerned about me using it.

Didn’t know that about humidity and dust mites. Thank you!!
Allergist is a must. Too much humidity can worsen dust mites. The navage sinus rinse is a huge helper for me. You might need some more specialized treatment.

Thank you so much for sharing! I definitely think my next step would be going to a specialist, bc my PCP seems to be at her limit of knowing what the issue is. I’ve wondered about procedures, I can clearly see from the outside my nose is crooked so who knows!🤣
Hey! When I was younger I was on Singular and switched to Zyrtec. I’ve been allergy tested a few times throughout my life and my most recent one was about 5 years ago and my results were off the chart and it scared the nurses 😅 My allergist had me do rounds of allergy shots and we went with an aggressive course but I ended up having a systemic reaction and almost went to the ER. It wasn’t terrible but it was enough that my doctor was going to scale the treatment back a bunch and with the lack of results I had I couldn’t justify the cost of them. Many people have had success with them but they take quite a while for actual improvement. After this I went to an otolaryngologist (ENT) to help alleviate some of my symptoms and ended up having surgery to remove some things in my nose, fixed my deviated septum, clear out my pathways, and a few other things. This helped a lot with my breathing afterwards but the allergies are still pretty same. I have noticed though when I am around the allergen more I become desensitized to it. For example, I’ve had dogs all my life and have always been allergic to dogs but it was fine until I went away for college and wasn’t around them regularly. When I came home I would break out in hives, sneezing, the whole shabang but once I was around them for again regularly I went back to normal (still having reactions but only mild ones). Sorry for the long post 😅 I hope some of it can help!
I’m surprised you were put on Singular. That is more for chest congestion. I use sailine nasal spray or a neti pot.
If you’re looking for a more natural remedy for congestion, I’d suggest researching the her mullein. It’s a natural expectorant.
I have not been to a specialist, that may be the next step I need to take. And I do use sudefed and others when it’s unbearable, but I try not to take them daily
You said you’ve been to your doctor, but have you been to an allergy specialist? Doing an allergy test to find out what exactly you’re allergic to may help. Also, have you tried any other meds besides antihistamines? Sudafed or mucinex could help with congestion.
