I feel like I possibly have bipolar II - No gp or MH service has ever looked into it and put it down to anxiety & depression, agitated states & PTSD. How do I go about getting screened for it? I do not want any more labels but I’ve been like this since my early/mid teens and I’m just getting worse, I’m now 25.

I read a pamphlet about bipolar disorder when I was a teen, and it had 10 questions. The more you answered yes to, the more likely you had bipolar disorder. I answered yes to 8 of the questions and showed it to my psychiatrist. He wasn't comfortable diagnosing an adolescent with bipolar disorder, so I was diagnosed with major depression with bipolar symptoms. I had to find another psychiatrist when I was 19 who would listen to me and work with me on my diagnosis. First he tested me for ADHD, which I didn't have, then started treating me for bipolar disorder with mood stabilizers. Tracking your moods and triggers, as suggested earlier, is a good way to present information to med providers. There are apps out there that can help you with that. You may have to track down a psychiatrist or med provider who will work with you and acknowledge your input and insights. After all, your treatment should be based on what you report to them and how they interpret that information and apply it to your treatment. Keep up the hunt. Someone out there will hear you. If you'd like to talk more, please let me know!😁

Mine got worse as I hit my mid twenties too! Apparently that happen. I told my doc about the “mood swings” and she referred me to a therapist. I told her what I thought and with her questions and notes the psychiatrist was able to diagnose me really quick! I also recommend tracking the moods and triggers. It will help as well.
