I recently started a job where I have little work and lots of idle time. I'm going to try to start to bring a book, but my attention span isn't great. what are some fun/distracting/maybe productive ways to kill time?

puzzles! things like crosswords, sudoku, etc. i find that even though my attention span is nonexistent normally, i often get sucked in to puzzles and end up passing a lot of time. if you’re not in a customer-facing position, you could try little bursts of some kind of physical activity too!
I’ve found a lot of peacefulness in writing exactly the thoughts that are going through my head.
If you're not a cat person, there's a similar game with the same playstyle called "My Oasis" where you get to grow your own oasis in the sky and customize the animals you want on the island. The oasis grows every time you level up, and you even get affirmations and positive quotes from the animals. It's very relaxing and always helps me kill time. I even used to play it in school when I had free time.
You could always try an idle game on your phone! Those kinds of games usually encourage offline time to get more rewards. If you're a cat person, my favorite has been a mobile game called "Dear My Cat." It's super cute and allows you to build an island for cats who have been parted with their humans. The recent updates make everything a lot easier as well!
