trigger warning intrusive thoughts so my dad is really upset today and I don't know why, but I can just feel him fuming, I just had an intrusive though that he would come into my room and kíļļ my utmost loved pet lizard Kiah. which I saw a very gorey image in my head and it's causing me to be distressed I'm trying to stop thinking about it cause it's something my father would never do, but the thought still intruded and now I'm upset and feel stupid, I just needed to share if anyone had anything to add/know a trick to stop intrusive thoughts.

When I have these thoughts I just tell myself that they're called intrusive thoughts because.. they're intrusive. They're not thoughts we want to have, these thoughts are often the opposite of what we want to think. So don't feel ashamed. Just distract yourself with something that makes you feel calm (draw, watch your favorite comfort show, take a bath, etc.)

Well normally when my mind is stuck on an image I am displeased with I do one of too things. One, just wait for the image to go away after I stop trying to fight the image out of my head, just let it happen. Two, I try to make my self think of something else I "NEED" to thunk about or think of something I "NEED" to do. It could even be a house chore. But either way it will eventually go away.
