Dystonia

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis when I was 13, and I never really had any explanation for what it is and how it effects me, nor do I take any medication for it.

When I first started out in 2017, I bought all the books and read all the blogs. It was overwhelming to have so many expert voices chastising me about how I was causing my illness and the only one to fix it. I found that a great, nonjudgmental, informative resource was The Everything Guide to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It helped me understand my autoimmune disease better than any health care provider could manage during a single appointment and it didn't try and literally sell $$$ me on any one miracle cure while providing help. I'd definitely recommend it.

I have both Hashimoto's and Hypothyroidism. I was told that my hypothyroidism was caused by Hashimoto's. My mother also has Hashi's but she doesn't have Hypo. Our doctor told her that she needs her thyroid levels checked every 6 months to make sure she hasn't developed Hypothyroidism, but also that if she does develop it, she should be put on medication.

Are you getting blood work done at least once a year?

@Zellie Yeah, I actually get blood work done a few times a year to monitor my thyroiditis

      Look for a good endocrinologist.

Omg y’all please go check out Dr. Isabella Wentz’s book. If you are dormant you can keep it from it going full-blown Hashi’s. Mine is stage 2 rn so I’m going through the lifestyle changes to keep it under wraps. Dr. Wentz is a fantastic resource for how to do that

@StrawberryCup I totally agree about Dr. Isabella Wentz’s books. A wealth of information from a Dr./Pharmacist who has Hashimoto’s and has a few great books published on this. I’ve got 3 of them. Have really walked me through Hashimoto’s and helped me in my healing journey

@StrawberryCup I have never heard of stages with this. What determines the stage?

Literally same. I had to pry for any information and ask a million questions. Still almost nothing.

I’m the exact same. I was diagnosed just before the lockdowns, and my doctor just said “it’s dormant, no need to worry.” But failed to supply any information on when I should know it’s no longer dormant and how to medicate if needed.
