Manic depression was an older term that got replaced and while Im not sure it seems they were mostly talking about type one in research I found when I got diagnosed. If you got diagnosed with that label and thats why youre asking it might be worth it to specify the type with your doctor because treatment can look a bit different sometimes. And a lot of doctors are not up to date about the condition.

Bipolar 1 is full manic mood swings with depressive episodes, bipolar 2 is only hypo mania with mostly depressive swings. You can google it to get the full detail
