Anyone else struggle with their partners sometimes in terms of them & your being ill? So mostly my partner is supportive but recently he just seems to be really like, annoyed or not very supportive of how I'm feeling at the moment. He's not always the most empathetic person & he admits that but I've had a huge flare of new symptoms/problems recently & he just seems annoyed everytime I try to vent or even mention any symptoms. I know being with a spoonie/chronically ill person can have it's ups & downs & can be tough but I feel like I can't talk to him at all about how much I'm struggling. I think he thinks that I'm over exagerrating or after sympathy. Idk if this is the case but he can be really unapproachable & stoic sometimes (we're super opposite in that sense) I'm a full time Mum & I'm in charge of most of the house/cleaning/looking after our son (& his daughter, my step daughter to be) So I feel like even though I don't work I do really pull me weight but sometimes it still feels like he doesn't really understand how I'm struggling. Does any one else have this issue? It's an on and off thing- sometimes he seems supportive but others he just seems sick of me & it's resulting in me minimising how I feel. It's hard to talk to him about it because I think he just really struggles to understand. I guess I just feel like bar my sisters no one realises how much I'm suffering & I feel like with one condition at a time everything in my body is going wrong 😪 Sorry for the rant- it's just really hard to get him to relate. He's type 1 diabetic so you'd think he'd be a bit more understanding but I just feel like a massive annoyance/burden 😰

It can be very difficult dealing with chronic issues in a relationship... especially if you both suffer. Men, especially, seem to think that stoicism is the best way to deal with it. It can make it very hard on both of you. Please remember that it's not that he doesn't want to communicate, it's just that he has trouble with it. It will get better. Especially after a bad patch. Mindfulness can help a bit.
