I had to go to the doc in a box for a chest infection. I got treated like crap. Again. And she kept implying that I'm not doing a good job taking care of myself. I wanted to say "well when I get THIS attitude from medical health professionals, it makes it harder to seek treatment for anything. Being chronically ill just makes me kind of give up and just try to survive.". Then she questioned "which one of my chronic diseases could possibly be making me feel so bad..." So I started my diatribe about my thyroid and impending total removal, and my other conditions.
doc in a box sounds like doc out of a box a crackerjack box. Like medical board needs to hear about this void of bedside manner and extreme presence of apathy.
I’m so sorry… This is the reason I want to go in the medical field. I hate that people get treated this poorly.. I hate that you went through this as I have too, and it’s so unfair and SO frustrating.. 😭
Do you have a primary care dr? Usually your doc can prescribe medicines either on the phone or online. No doctor you just met is ever going to treat you with familiarity. Asking questions is part of their job. Don't take it personally
I dont know somehow "which one of your chronic ..." Just comes off as arrogance like covertly saying yeah right nothing should be inhibiting you, quit being a bum, just grow up and do . . .
I totally don't take it as lack of familiarity, i take it as full of apathy.
one thing WE should never do is assume why someone is acting a certain way. Our own lack of empathy isn't warranted. One can take control. Ask to see another Dr. Or avoid those walk in clinics altogether.
