Hiii, I'm Octavio, I'm a transgender man :). I've been very stressed lately about my identity and my body, along with my relationships. I want to begin transitioning, but I live with parents and I am afraid of them knowing. I have no clue if they're transphobic or not and I want to be safe. Any ideas on what I should do?

Hi there Octavio! I myself am non-binary, and my longtime partner is a transgender male as well. I’ve been with him throughout his entire transition (which is still in progress 4 years later). I definitely suggest finding some folks you can trust to talk to, whether that be a close friend, a therapist or someone in a local LGBTQ group! My partner’s parents were initially very shocked and confused when he started transitioning, but after some time they adjusted and accepted him completely. My mother still doesn’t understand my identity and maybe never will. But she’s not hateful. I think working with someone you can trust will help build confidence and self esteem! And don’t let your parents scare you, if you want to transition you have every right to do whatever you think is best for you. I’m sure you’ll know when it’s the right time to talk to them!
