Avoiding Disability Disclosure: How Do You Handle the Question?

I used to dread having someone ask me, "Why do you walk like that?" When I was younger, I didn't have an answer to that question. Now that I do, I don't dread those kinds of questions anymore because it gives me an opportunity to be insightful.

I’m opened and honest

I tell ppl so they can be aware if i get hurt or need the hospital

If I trust em I tell em everything if I don't I just say I had a car accident

It honestly depends on context of who im telling but i tend to be very open about my SB but when I was younger and started dating I definitely held off the topic from fear of being judged

I very rarely say it by name and usually just describe the symptoms

That’s a good question. I usually say that I have a few problems with my spine since birth. If they keep digging then I explain about the mechanism. I usually don’t use the name spina bifida
