Introducing Myself: Battling Achalasia Alone

Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. I was diagnosed with achalasia in 2020 and throughout 2021 I had two surgeries—one failed heller myotomy and another surgery to correct that. I often feel pretty isolated having this disorder because I have never met another person who struggles with anything like this. I’m hoping to connect with other people who have had somewhat similar experiences!

      I too have achalasia & have had it displayed with Botox. Helps a lot and I take nifedipine too which really really helps relax the muscle & my life a lot more normal.

      Hi there! I was diagnosed with type 2 achalasia in 2017 and had Heller myotomy last month. Definitely better but sometimes need a bit of water and struggling with heartburn this week. I’m sorry to read your first surgery failed. I’ve read may always have some trouble swallowing with this condition after surgery but I sure hope you are doing better than before. I’ve never met someone in-person with this condition so is very isolating, I agree. Glad to have this forum!

      Hi! I was diagnosed with achalasia in May of 2021 and had a POEM in July. It’s been ok so far. I still occasionally have some issues swallowing and have to drink some water because I can feel food stuck but the dr said that I healed perfectly so idk maybe it’s just something I have to live with from now on?

      Hey! I also have ach achalasia. A few years back I had a POEM procedure which also was not successful. I’ve had a few balloon dilations which only seem to help for a few days then the symptoms come back again.

        @NickM I had the poem twice. I still have issues. I have major issues with gaining weight. I had lost 75 lbs. Went down to 76. I am finally at 83. I can't put any weight on.
