Does anyone else struggle with not interrupting people? I really don’t mean to do it and I feel really self conscious about it :/

yes its a huuuge struggle for me, if i dont speak my thoughts immediately, i lose them by the time the other person is talking! and i find myself trying to hold onto the thought until the other person is done, but then i notice im not really paying attention to what they are saying anymore, over the fear that i will lose my thought

I do this and am accused of "making the conversation about me" but when I don't talk over people, they talk over me and apparently that's okay. Then I'm "dominating the conversation" if I try and redirect back to something I've tried to say 3 times and that I feel is important. The things ForgetfulFerret and bearboy said also apply. Anyway, you're definitely not alone. Whether they'll admit it or not, EVERYONE interrupts from time to time. As long as it's not constant, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if they're not letting you get a word in if you don't. If you're not cutting people off mid-sentence or completely changing the subject, I would argue that it's participating not interrupting. And don't let them criticize you for it if they're doing it as well.

i do this all of the time and tend to feel super embarrassed about it afterwards that it kind of causes me to not talk for the rest of the night. it's definitely hard.

yeah, I relate! I try not to interrupt, but sometimes if I don't, I don't get a single word in. especially with my grandparents and mom. around them I've started to just,,, raise my hand a bit to get their attention so they know I have something to say. I realized I tend to interrupt bc I'm afraid of forgetting what i want to say, which happens a lot too, or I relate to what they're saying. I don't interrupt to be mean or out of spite at all, but I feel like most people read it that way when I'm just trying to be apart of the conversation

✋ me! Lol. I can tell how people are going to finish sentences by the time they get half way through and it’s so hard to force myself to not respond till they’re done talking. I also relate what other people are feeling or things they’re experiencing to things I’ve felt or experienced that are similar and people accuse me of being self centered and always flipping conversations to about me. It’s exhausting interacting with people cause I always have to be mentally aware of how I’m acting to make sure I’m not being inadvertently rude. Conversations with anymore than one person and idk how/when to step in or interject so I usually just sit silent and listen. Sorry, probably oversharing, just wanted to let you know you’re not alone in this. ❤️
