I just had surgery on my shoulder on Tuesday (7/12). I just would like to talk with others who have gone through this. It is painful and (however, not as bad as I thought it would be.) it's starting to depress me not being able to do the things that I normally can do. Right now I'm just laying in bed resting with my sling off and a pillow supporting my arm. I can do somethings but I hate depending on others for things.

Know that you only have a short time and you will be up and moving and physicL Therapy. They move it and ice it and move it and Ice it. Before you know it you are back to normal and your repaired shoulder feels better than the other one!

I try to sleep but that is hard with my daughter because she is special needs...she has a lot of mental health issues and she doesn't like to let me sleep. It's a lot to explain ...

@BethAA sleep isn't a friend of mine either. You are always welcome to chew my ear off. I've not had shoulder surgery but I can understand the pain. Keep your head up and know you have friends that understand.
@zyxorcba Thanks!
I have had surgery on both of my shoulders. Not a fun recovery but it does get better. Allow yourself this time to heal. I understand the frustration but itβs important to follow your surgeons orders. Ice was my best friend after my surgeries. It helped the most with the pain.

@Hockeyfan yes, I like the ice...not only does it feel good on the surgical site but it's cooling because it's so hot. Lol
@BethAA haha thatβs the way to look at the positive. I hope today went a little better for you
I'm about to have surgery to repair 3 discs in my neck. No bending. No leaning. No twisting. For a minimum of 30 days. I am discovering that there is a whole lot I cannot do! I feel like a burden & haven't even had surgery yet. May The Great Spirit wrap you in healing, loving light.
it's always easier to say and do. And that's okay. Tell ya what, you agree to let someone or as someone for help at least once on Sunday, 17 July, and I, who have flipped the other way will help my husband or son with one thing tomorrow. Deal? I have to put my money where my mouth is right? Can't just preach it (but its sooooo much easier!).π€π€π€£πππ€«π°π¨π±π±π€―π΅βπ«π΄π΄π΄
@katzgoddessa I will do that. My daughter, who is special needs with a lot of mental health issues, has helped me a lot. My husband helps where he can but he is working too.
It is so easy to feel like a burden, but you have to tell yourself it's only going to help. You'd most likely do the same if it were them that had the surgery. πβ€οΈ As far as the pain meds, sleep is the best thing for you. I took only one after having my surgery, but let myself sleep (when I could get comfortable).
I'm the same way I had a stroke in 2020 and my independence was taken away in one day but just remember it's only temporary and it's ok to need help sometimes
@Ally79 I am a CNA and I've been a direct support for people with mental and physical as well as intellectual disabilities for going on 15 years...I've always been able to relate well to my residents or clients but I even more understand what my residents feel...
Everyone needs someone at times. Never feelembarrassed or less because you ask someone for help. You help them when needed let them do the same for you.
@katzgoddessa Logically I know this.. but, I've always been one of those I'll do it for myself because I don't have anyone else...even though I do now it's still hard. The pain sucks. The pain meds don't work. And I'm having a reaction to the adhesives on the tape and band aides. π©
