Week 5 of recovery from Breast EXplant and large abdominal surgery on top of my other conditions and I’m really struggling … I’m a musician and multimedia artist living on disability and can’t find the motivation to do anything at all, let alone the daily house chores or create. It’s almost 60 degrees out today and I’m cleared to start taking short walks and should be but it’s 1:30pm and I’m still in my pajamas, haven’t showered in two days, have only managed to make the bed, get a cup of tea and make it to the couch… every day I wake up and just can’t wait for the day to be over. Everything is painful and I am having trouble pushing thru it. I know I can I’m just really struggling.

Week 6 post op tomorrow and I still have an open wound from a stitch that’s now starting to get pus and blood 😣 thank goodness my post-op appointment with my surgeon is on Tuesday🙏📿💜
I’m an artist too, and I struggle with the motivation. When I was at my worst, I completely hermited, and stayed in bed and it just made everything worse. Take really small steps, like sitting outside for a few minutes when it’s nice and reading about art or listening to music when it’s too much to create. It’s not always going to feel good or help right away. In fact, it may not feel like anything to sit outside, or walk around, especially if you hurt, get tired, or really don’t want to, but over time you can work back up to doing more and feeling more. It’s really important to not beat yourself up, because things like this impact you mentally and physically.

Be gentle with yourself! It's all around healing you're going through, not just the physical. You did things! Even if they are small. Since the weather is nice, what about opening a window and sitting in the sunshine? That helps me when I'm funky and unmotivated to at least *feel* a bit better. The walks even if it's just to the end of the drive and back will help with the abdomen even if it doesn't feel like it.

Is there any music that gets you energized? I have to change up the Spotify mood all the time when I realise there's work to be done and I'm moving slowly. I just thought maybe bc you're a musician you'd have some concrete attachments. Maybe play a really old throw-back album, and then switch to something with higher energy?
