Is there any type of dieting that works best with Hashimoto's thyroiditis disease? What is the best way you have found to lose weight with Hashimoto's?

I am an outlier here. Dairy isn't a big trigger for flare ups for me. Neither is gluten. But soy, a lot of seed oils, and some types of sugar are. So I try to minimize the amount of high histamine and inflammatory foods I eat but I can eat almost anything in moderation. There is no "one diet fits all" or a "miracle cure diet". I would suggest going with a strict elimination diet and reintroducing one food/food type at a time and keeping a journal of how you feel before, during, and after reintroducing foods. If something isn't sitting right with you then remove it again.

I'm on a strict gluten free, soy free, dairy free, vegan diet. Yea, no fun lol. But it helps me. It really does. I've lost weight, feel better, I kinda eat as much as I want, to a degree bc it's a hunt for what I can eat lol but hey, it works for me.

I've been gluten & dairy free since my diagnosisin in 2017! It definitely helped me get a better grip on my stomach issues. I've also done a 'top ten allergen' elimination diet over the span of 4-5 wks, but it was difficult, costly, and stressful.... And only told me potatoes make me bloated. I think familiarizing myself with research on what foods cause inflammation in the body, and not reaching for those to fill my diet has helped. I eat a lot of meat proteins, fresh fruits, and roasted veggies. I struggle with fatigue, as many with Hashimoto's do, and when I try to eat low carb/cut calories, I feel worse. Eating a nutrient dense diet feels good to me. There's a lot of resources out there for AIP diets, elimination diets, Hashimoto's protocol, etc... I found these are helpful until the authors start selling their unique miracle cures linked to their websites. Also be wary of those diet books written in a tone to make you feel terrible if you don't follow every single detail of their master plan. Everyone finds something different to work with their lifestyle, cravings, caloric needs, etc. Just remember every effort you're making is good work and can be an opportunity to fine tune what works for you.

I would recommend a plant based diet. It is difficult not to lose weight eating just plants. I tried gluten free for two years and saw zero change. Sugar free for me was the most change and also plant based.

@Angiebear35 thanks so much, I did notice with the gluten and dairy my stomach would become very upsetting at times, even still now. So, I tried cutting these out and would see my weight fluctuate, but I'd never lose it. It's been hard, but I should definitely try plant based with no sugars.
