My mother died on June 30th after a long and painful battle with cancer. I took care of her all by myself. I’m extremely upset and sad but I’m unable to cry… it’s not that I don’t want to, just nothing happens. Is being this numb common?

I took care of my parents and my uncle at the same time and my mom passed away first then my uncle passed away and then a year and a half later my dad passed away and I initially cried but then it didn't happen anymore. It was 10 years later that I cried which is just a couple months ago I don't think we always need to cry I don't think that if you don't cry you didn't love them I think our bodies just do what it needs to do at the time I personally think I was just so exhausted that I couldn't expend anymore energy on crying my body was trying to heal itself. Don't be hard on yourself you're okay when your body really needs to do it it will God bless

I went through the same thing. Once life "settled down", I nearly had a nervous breakdown because I finally had to deal with it. Make sure you have someone you can tell if you start to have a rougher time or if whatever things working to help you go bad. Know you're not alone and a real man can and will admit when they don't have a complete grasp on things. It never gets better, but you should learn the techniques to make it easier for you.
