Any tips for trying an IBS friendly diet when you're unable to cook/make your own food? I rely on other people or ready meals because I'm not able to prep or cook anymore (which is more than frustrating!). I don't want to ask my family to change their diet for me but I do want to reduce symptoms. Even if it's just swapping some snacks for more IBS friendly ones, that's a start! I also don't eat much - one (well, 1/2) meal a day, and maybe some snacks - so it's really that meal that needs tweaking to help š¬

Unfortunately it's really a trial and error thing. Some people have different triggers, some foods may not even trigger you at all (I was warned about apples but I can digest them fine). However, I do recommend that you up your food intake. A lack of food can contribute to your pain.

Some IBS friendly meals for me that are just good anytime, is baked chicken breast in olive oil with salt and Italian seasoning. Have that with some cooked low fodmap veggie, recommend cooking veggies as they are easier to digest. And some rice. This is a full meal no fodmaps. Also if you are looking for ready meals, it's expensive but modify health does a low fodmap meal service. For groceries FODY brand is low fodmap, they have sauces snacks etc.
It unfortunately relies entirely on your body. IBS is what my neurologist calls a trash bin diagnosis. Basically the doctors don't know what's causing our pain but know we're in pain. So, because of this, there's many different things causing it. Some of us might have an undiagnosed IBD (Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis), some might have gastroperisis, some might have a gluten allergy. It's all individual to what the doctor missed. Keeping a good journal to figure out your food triggers is key, then figure out what means avoid those triggers.
For me avoiding sugary drinks and not sweetening my tea and coffee was a big help.

@Karlie2000 ooh, that's a great point! I'm a sucker for energy drinks and syrup in my coffee. I'll have to start phasing these out again and see if it helps. Thank you for sharing ā¤ļø

@AimeeB thank you for this! I'm trying to up my food/water intake but it's a nightmare with a mash of illnesses and symptoms. I'm thinking of making a food schedule for each day. That might help with knowing what triggers symptoms, too!
