Do alters remember events from my past that I don't remember?

That is the case for my system! Because the way I have always understood it. Is that the way a DID brain works is we reme.ber everything. It's just where it gets stored is not the same as a neural typical brain stores memories. Like one person in the system may remember the smell of grass and the feel of the sun on their skin Another feels the emotions And another has the images of the event The event is totally obscured until the three of them share what they know then it's all there.

Many alters are created to hold memories and form amnesic barriers to protect your brain from the knowledge. Alters can be created for other reasons however, like to manage prolonged stress or intense emotions, but with DID specifically they almost certainly do.

This is Very possible! There are a few different types of DID, Mine being where I can remember/see what my alters are doing, and my alters can see what I am doing. Normal DID cases normally have the host "asleep" when alters are fronting, but its always different for other forms of DID. So yes, it is possible!

There is a possibility that you have an alter that do suppress memories, it's more common than you think. I have a persecutor that does that and it messes with us a lot

@BunnieGutz I can relate to this. The Librarian and the archivest they are the keepers of memories in my syste. They choose who knows what when.

Sometimes. I know that my system has major memory lapses. Sometimes memories will come back. Sometimes it's helpful. Most of the time memories that come back were lost for a reason.

Very possible! My therapist was telling me that I may or may not find out some of the memories they hold, especially if traumatic since our systems are created to protect us.

To clarify, we recently came to terms with the fact that we are a system and are pursuing a proper diagnosis. We just don't have a lot of other systems to talk to and are trying to figure stuff out!
