Does anyone else get really itchy for no reason? I usually get really itchy at night mostly on my back but sometimes it's all over my body and I have no idea why
I get that. Usually around the same time. There's something 'off' about the itch that lets me know it's starting. Starts as a dermititis like rash, then welts and blotches too. Itches until it bleeds 😣 Same localized areas too, I went to three doctors and all I got was an antihistamine that calmed them down enough to stop the bleeding.
I dunno. Still no answers. But one of doctors thinks I could have a condition similar to eczema from all my chronic inflammation and that could've caused it. Hard to know for sure since the flare ups only happen between 10.30pm and 2am 😂
is it really scaly and dry? I have psoriasis and that's how my patches start. I get really itchy bumps almost like an allergic reaction and then the next day I have a psoriasis patch in that exact spot
My doctor recommended Zyrtec. I had used it before for seasonal allergies.
I had suddenly started javing skin itching on my hands, wrist and abdomen when exposed to any breeze. Zyrtec worked great on the itching. I preferred to split the table in half and take morning and night. That seemed to work better than one a day.
Like another mentioned, mine started around the time my new breast cancer started. We just didnt find it yet.
I couldnt tell you if it stopped after the mastectomy because i still have numerous autoimmune things going on. I havent stoped the zyrtec.
"Abstract. Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis (APD) is a condition in which the menstrual cycle is associated with a number of skin findings such as urticaria, eczema, angioedema, and others. In affected women, it occurs 3–10 days prior to the onset of menstrual flow, and resolves 2 days into menses."
I have this, possibly something to look into.
Yeah, that used to happen to me when I was little. For me it was mostly because of my health anxiety so I would get fixated on it and it would keep happening. But once I learned that it was because of my anxiety, I could focus on it less and eventually it went away.
Yup, my mom works at a dermatology office and assumed psoriasis. The medicine they gave me hasn't worked in the 4 years I've been taking it so I don't think that's the case 🤣
"The skin is studded with nerve endings that detect itch and pain. These sensory signals travel via nerves to a node of the spinal cord and then onward to the brain. Although itch and pain nerves are thought to convey distinct sensations, in many cases their pathways are so close that their signals sometimes overlap."
https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/scientists-define-molecules-role-itch-pain-pathways#:~:text=The%20skin%20is%20studded%20with,that%20their%20signals%20sometimes%20overlap.
The way it was explained to me was "the nerve is firing pain signals, and for whatever reason instead of sending pain it sends itch."
Pain and I go way back, and for the most part I can handle it. Itch? Especially when it doesn't respond to treatment for itching...I'd rather have the pain back please.
i would get relentlessly itchy at night with no like detergent changes and my skin looked fine but the itchiness was insane and would not stop for like an hour
I get random places that itch at night, but always the same spots, without ant type of rash or bumps. I have fibromyalgia and other nerve related issues. I was told that because it happens in the exact same spots each time, it's probably nerve endings being overly active/sensitive.
definitely a possibility. I also have times where I wake up scratching the hell out of my scalp. It only happens in my sleep. 🤔 I think that is my anxiety more than my fibro though. It's just annoying and painful because I dig at it so bad it causes bleeding/scabs
I use to. It was from my cancer that I didn't know about. It was causing rash that looked like eczema and psoriasis all over my hands (but my whole body itched) and my nails started pitting really bad.
Yes! This happens to me when I get overtired at night and it happens to my mom too. I also have over reactive pressure sensors so I feel like that's related somehow. But there's definitely something majorly off with how my nerves work, yes.
I get itchiness like this unrelated to ecxema or any skin condition, i have always thought it was just my nerves since I have dysautonomia related symptoms/POTS so I honestly just think my nerves are always ready to fire in some form so if clothing touches my skin it’ll go off at times when I’m not doing anything but trying to sleep.
I have psoriasis as well and although a lot of times I’m itchy around patches I also get randomly itchy all over too. Changing a lot of things has helped but even after avoiding triggers I’m still constantly itchy. I do find that AHA body cream (by SkinFix) helps the most with it but is expensive- $48 for 10oz jar and exfoliating every other day keeps it more at bay.
Yep. I think it’s a chronic pain thing because if my memory is correct pain and itches use similar signals or something. I also get random rashes but that’s suspected MCAS
I am literally the itchiest person on earth all the time, but especially after prolonged exposure to any kind of water, whether I'm super sweaty or I just got out of the shower. It's gotten to the point where I can't even do dishes because I won't be able to stop scratching my hands. The itching gets so bad I accidentally scratch mindlessly until I bleed 😭 it's rough out here
the exposure to water causes me to itch too. It's so weird. After showers is the worst for me. My entire body itches for hours. My scalp itches off and on all the time, but is worse at night.
huh. if it's water specifically, the drying process dries out your skin/hair/scalp/nails. so it could be triggering something in a majour way. I keep lotion everywhere and after getting wet, drying with towel, lotioning up is the first thing i do. Scalp oil, face and body oils, hand+arm+nail lotions. every time.
it's a bit cumbersome but maybe it could ease the trigger?
Same sometimes. Usually showers don't do anything but irritate my psoriasis from the hot water. But sweating and dishes definitely irritate my skin like nothing else. I always get so itchy. Swimming in a lake or pool never does anything but sweating and dishes sure does.
yes! I can usually get mine to go away by taking benadryl. it either feels like my skin is itchy, or bugs are crawling under my skin. I think it's related to nerve pain from my autoimmune stuff?? but no one's been able to tell me for sure.
