How do y’all encourage yourselves?

It’s hard, because a lot of the times it feels so fake, but repeating positive affirmations in the mirror on a regular basis is helpful. It only works if you stick with it and basically “fake it till you make it” i.e. create new thought patterns.

I think about where I was vs. where I am now and how I never thought I would be able to accomplish the things that I have

I try to just be kind and compassionate towards myself and situation. I say things like, “I am so proud of you” and “I love you” out loud to myself to remind me that I’ve got my back. That helps a lot. I also think that validating your feelings is very important; saying something like “I know this is so hard for you right now, but I will be here through it with you” can help you feel empowered. So often we are encouraged to distract from our bad feelings, but sometimes we just need to know that it’s okay to feel that way before we can move on. Practicing self-compassion has been a difficult thing for me, but each time I allow myself to be with my emotions, I’ve felt stronger and better aligned with how I want to conduct myself. I know I’m working on helping that inner child feel more heard and loved, and that’s what I need to keep going. We never stop needing that gentle acceptance and patience, even as adults.

Agree with fake it til you make it! Also talk to my inner child how I would encourage her or wish someone did when I was younger, coming from a loving parent that believes in me and has my back. Basically re-parenting myself with love and discipline has helped me tremendously. For me it also really depends on what I need in the moment so I take that into account and see how I can give that to myself in a healthy way. And if I can’t or struggling.. reach out to someone that can without strings.
