I’m looking for anyone who experienced severe lower abdominal pain after eating certain foods. The pain is really bad, it’s is accompanied with Nausea and sometimes vomiting until the whole one-two hr attack is over. I’m 51 now and this started when I was 7. Going Gluten free reduced it a lot, not totally. Looking for anyone whose symptoms might be the same

Hyoscyamine is the anti spasmatic I take. It’s like a muscle relaxer for the intestines is how it was explained to mw

Same symptoms, since childhood as well. After the initial nausea wears off I find that a really really hot bath relaxes my muscles enough to ease the pain but the heat makes the nausea worse so its definitely a trade off

My cramping gets so bad, like my endometriosis pain, that I resort to ice packs across my abdomen. It’s sounds horrible, but it works. I throw a blanket across the rest of me to keep warm. I believe reducing the swelling actually helps. I also believe for me it goes in cycles, every few years it switches from diarrhea to constipation and then back again. I stopped wheat, not completely GF, and that has helped a lot. I didn’t come back with celiac disease on tests either.

I had a pain killer, hydrocodone for the pain but that makes the constipation worse, but the pain is so bad and I only get it every other month to that level so it’s worth it. My new doctor won’t give it to me though. The anti spasmatic works? What’s the name?

Medication wise, it’s a revolving door of trading symptoms. The nausea med gives me horrible headaches. ( I already have chronic stress headaches that are like migraines). I have an anti-spasmatic for my and pain. That makes the constipation worse. Worse constipation gives me worse abd pain.

I have seen an allergist and he doesn’t want to test for food allergies. He says what I get, vomiting pain etc is not an allergy it’s at best an intolerance and inconsequential. 🤦‍♀️

And I just wanted to add that when my IBS symptoms first started at 19yo my attacks/flares were only 2 hours long also. Over the years that time increased. I am now, at 38yo, to the point where an attack/flare will last 10 hours. Just letting everyone know it is a possibility that symptoms can get a lot worse over time. I think all this has to do with our gut microbes. I have been trying to fix mine for 3 years and it is no easy task. Find a caring doctor willing to run the tests and continue testing even when everything comes back normal.

I use to be really bad (mornings were the worst) until I did an elimination diet. It's not easy, but you find out which foods are causing problems. I no longer eat gluten, dairy, sugar, red meat, pineapple, tomatoes, rice, bananas, and so much more. My stomach no longer hurts and I have no more diarrhea. The nausea and vomiting have decreased. I also found out I am intolerant and allergic to many medications. Anything that makes you nauseous after eating it, eliminate it. It is an intolerance or allergy. I know most say vomiting is not a symptom of allergies, but as a former LPN that is experiencing it myself, it is! And my suspicions have been confirmed by allergy testing from an allergist. Red meat makes my stomach hurt and I vomit for 10 hours. After a blood test it was confirmed I am allergic. Just because you don't show up allergic to something doesn't mean you don't have an intolerance. And take my word for it, I saw many GI doctors, get an allergist involved. I went over 15 years without seeing an allergist and a lot of my problems could have been solved a long time ago.

I experience severe lower abdominal pain when I have gas or need to use the bathroom. The pain feels just like labor contractions. I even do breathing to get through it.

I have this as well, and I don’t have celiac but have stopped gluten for the last 7 months. That helps. I started low FODMAP 3 months ago and that has helped as well, but I have Ibs with constipation and can’t take anything to help with the constipation. I feel like since I’ve cut so much out of my diet it takes even longer for food to pass. I can massage my stomach and get some relief but this is such a horrible way to live. And every time I a cidently eat onion or garlic or something from the FODMAP I shouldn’t I cramp and bloat and feel sick. Would love a cure for this!!!!

Are you on any medication for this?

I can definitely feel it too as it moves, it almost feels like my intestines is kinked, like a hose, and as it moves through that area the pain just spikes. I’m sorry this happens to you in the morning that must make life even harder! I never met anybody ever in my life who has anything similar to me. Except my poor daughter who I pass this on to. My blood work didn’t show gluten either, you should definitely try the fodmap diet, it really did change my life. It’s just now there’s another food that’s causing the same problem and I don’t know what it is.

I am a bit similar, but sometimes my attacks last for hours. Worse in the morning. Nausea, sometimes vomiting. I can feel pain as my food moves through my intestines sometimes. Some places it hurts worse than others. I’ve been told Gluten is not a concern for me from blood work I had done so I have not removed that from my diet. However, I do have trouble eating meat. Especially red meat.
