I just spoke to a doctor about the possibility of my having adhd for the first time. I felt like I was being ridiculous and making it all up. Idk maybe I am, but I’m tired of being tired and not having explanations for why I am the way I am. A lot of the symptoms fit adhd, but even if it’s not that, I just wish someone could help make life less of an uphill battle. My sensory issues and fatigue make working a normal 40 hour a week job impossible. How am I supposed to function like a normal adult? Anyway, my doc mentioned doing some serious psych tests, and I want to do it, but I don’t know how to bring it up with my parents without seeming like I’m making it all up. I’m early 20s, for context, still on my parents’ insurance.

Learned something new. My daughter and i bothhave ADD and have trouble waking up. I haven't heard of them crashing ( asleep) like that. We usually cannot nap easily and when we finally do, we sleep for hours. Thanks for the new info

I have ADD, but my brother was diagnosed with ADHD. He will absolutely CRASH all the time!! It’s like his mind is going so fast all the time that as soon as there is a moment of peace, he’s totally out! (He used to fall asleep on the 5 minute car ride to and from school!) We we’re told that it’s a common ADHD thing to have a hard time waking up because your body burns through energy WAYYY faster than a neuro-typical body! You’re not crazy! ADHD/ADD can affect so so much of your life! I say, go for the testing if it’s available! Maybe you’ll be diagnosed, maybe not! But at least you’ll know! And remember: no matter the outcome of the test, you know your body. You know what feels “right” and what feels “wrong.” If you know something isn’t quite right, TRUST THAT. don’t buy the lie that you’re just crazy, and don’t compare yourself to the people around you! There is SO MUCH we still don’t know about how the human body works, but there is a gut instinct that SO many of us on this app have experienced that tells us that something isn’t right. Trust that feeling!

Hi. In addition the word hyperactivity usualky suggests the opposite of tired. There is usually too much energy, and as someone who had it as a child and has ADD, as an adult, I had too much energy, when I was young. This may have contributed to my fatigue, now, as I did harm to my body, trying to regulate my brain. So, maybe someone else with adhd, who is tired, can understand what you mean by "tired". Is it all the time or just in the morning? My daughter has it too and both had troupe winding down, even to sleep. Pleasetell us a little more about your symptoms, b/c I didn't know tiredness was a symptom of ADD, but the opposite. Now ADD is attention deficit disorder without the hyperactivity and might be what you're describing. There is no blood test but tasks given by a trained psychologist. Don't get diagnosed by PCP unless he really understands it. It's like fibromyalgia and is over-diagnosed b/c ADD & ADHD have a lot of the same symptoms of other disorders and they'll just put on some med. It's an easy fix. So, do more research and see what it really ADHD really is and isn't. Good luck
