I've been thinking about getting a cane for when I have really bad hip and/or knee days, but part of me feels silly because I don't need it every day. has anyone else had similar experiences?

Get it! I go to many places where I have to walk a lot and my knees and hips come out often and it results in me being sore and my cane is very helpful so that I don’t rely on one limb and make it very sore.

Get it! You don't always have to use it if you don't always need it. It's a safety net for when you need it
I’ve been using crutches since I was 27. Sometimes one, sometimes , sometimes in the other hand depending on which shoulder is worse. My backs far too bad without them and I’d rather walk a bit than not get out of the house.

I have a few mobility aids, walking sticks are my most often used. I would recommend getting one, because of how much it has helped me, but there are moments where people give you looks. I'm in my early 20s so people do take double looks but I've learned to live with it. I recommend getting a jazzy one to give people something to look at, mine is now covered in glitter 😂 If you feel it would help, get one and try it out.
this is exactly how i feel, and i also fear that people will think im poking fun at people with more visible conditions. im just feeling concerned because i'm walking to school a mile away, plus my classes are spread all over campus and it's making things difficult. also im glad that you are able to use crutches as you need <3

I going through this at the moment with using crutches. It makes me feel like people don’t believe me, as I don’t need to use them all the time, and I can walk short distances without them. I am getting to the point where I can start to reduce the amount I’m using them, but I still carry them with me. I’m getting used to not de-valuing what I am feeling. It’s a hard journey, one that I am still on, but it becomes more normal
@StarryAstronaut *Normal as in I’m getting used to it
Maybe not with a cane but other things. Not silly. Sometimes, you need a little extra help, and that's OK. Some days, my arms and wrist dislocate and hurt, and other days, I can function fine. This condition is weird and often comes in waves
