I hate tourettes. My tics are so embarrassing but I can't stop them because I can't suppress them because I don't know when they are coming.

Honestly, it does just suck. As someone with several embarrassing tics (like moaning an anime character's name, for example) I've found that a few things help me. One is just accepting that it's embarrassing sometimes. That's a LOT easier said than done, but I've come to accept it over the years. Moaning a fictional character's name is silly, and I've learned to laugh about it. If you laugh about it yourself, people will start laughing with you more than at you. That's my experience, anyway. And of course, I'm not saying that Tourettes is a joke. I do have tics where I get moderately/seriously hurt, and a lot of my more common tics are painful. Tourettes isn't a joke, but some tics can be funny. Another way is to just remember that you didn't choose to have Tourettes. Tics aren't your fault, and you can't really control them. There isn't a point in being embarrassed over something you didn't want to do in the first place. It's like farting during class (as crude of an example as that is). You can either stew in the embarrassment and feel ashamed for the rest of class, or you can say "oh, sorry about that" and move on. Everyone has bodily functions, be it hiccupping or ticcing. I don't know if any of that makes sense, but it's the best I've got 😅

I have TS and I struggled with being embarrassed and sometimes I still do, and that's okay because I know I can't always be strong when comes to other people giving me issues about it. It takes time to adjust to life with TS even if you have had for as long as you can remember. Learn to love them in someway I know they are tiring and frustrating but they are also a very unique part of you. Overtime you can learn how to suppress your tics which can help sometimes but its still not good to do and you can't always suppress them. A thing that helped me that might help you is learning what made my tics increase. For me it's high emotions especially stress, anxiety, and being really excited. I know being around alot of people make my tics worse so I mentally prepare and I also make sure I know I have someone who loves me and has no problem whatsoever with my tics is there, that helps alot too, having support. You got this okay don't let TS ruin your life because you are not your tics you are you!

After nearly 14 years of living with my tourettes, I can honestly say that suppressing your tics eventually gets easier to do. But it's not really the best idea to do so. Yes, tics can be very embarrassing at times, but holding them in can actually be pretty painful sometimes. Besides, the longer you hold them in, the worse they're gonna be when you finally release.
