anyone else find it really annoying when people are like "god bless u", "god loves you", "ill pray for you"? it's like, i don't care man. that doesn't help me. i have no problem with u being religious but i don't really want to hear it when im sharing about my depression and shit. may be a controversial take, hope i don't offend anyone, but stop.

Spiritual person here, yet I very much understand your frustration. “God loves you” is a very dismissive statement that doesn’t offer any help or encouragement from the person saying this. As comforting as it could be to a religious person, it’s still a quick way out in my opinion. Would be much more meaningful if people offered to pray for you or just be a good samaritan and ask what they can do to help. The toxic positivity is a cop out, I’m sorry believers have made you feel like this 💔

I agree. Don’t bring religion up whenever someone’s having a hard time :/ Doesn’t help whatsoever

I can find it really frustrating, especially if it’s coming from people I barely know when people or use it dismissively, but reminding myself that the person saying “I’ll pray for you” or “god bless you” genuinely believes that they are helping through their prayer really helps me appreciate it. Usually it’s a kindness, and they don’t realize that they are making us uncomfortable with it.

@Gothmoth people just need to realize that not everyone wants their religion

I hate it too. If I'm not religious don't say that stuff to me 😩

@babighost lol ya. Don't try to force me to follow ur religion, it's like me trying to force you to be an athiest or agnostic. It's rude.

Omw, I've dealt with this today. I do believe in God, but like man... That does not help me when people say stuff like that. I feel pretty neglected at the end of it, and it makes me very angry. I get that He does and all, but sometimes I just want to be open and talk about how I feel without people saying stuff like that. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. I know how you feel.

@Wintie i caught this fast, was looking at comments. but it is rather dismissive, im trying to talk to u about something and u just say "god loves u" then act like nothing happened. like makes u think why bother

@csk ya, i have nothing against religion, but im personally not religious. whenever ppl give those generic responses like 'you should try eating healthy and exercising more, god loves you!" im like lmao that didn't help me like at all. if people want to pray for me that's fine, like it won't mean anything to me but if it helps them that's good, but ppl just say "god loves u" and expect me to feel better it's like.. bruh. i do appreciate u understanding tho

@MirandasUniverse I totally get it. I feel like either people don’t want to deal with others’ emotions (sad but some people really are heartless…) or sometimes I give people the benefit of the doubt and think maybe they’re uncomfortable with emotion and don’t quite know what to say. Either way, I think it’s important for everybody to try their best to comfort other people and help in a genuine way. It’s a cop out answer for sure, whether they’re meaning for it to be or not, because it more or less communicates “well… God cares, even if I don’t!” Just don’t associate with those people if they make you feel bad. Just know there are believers, and non believers, out there who would love to help you through tough times! ❤️

Yeah that shits annoying . Like ok God loves me enough to make me suicidal af?? The other day my bfs mom was like don't say you have back pain, you have to believe that everything will be okay so God can help you .like alot of ppl think that of you speak your illnesses aloud you're gonna never get better and then they always pray on disabled people like leave us alone lol

@Porkbun ya like if praying actually worked wouldn't the world not have any issues at all? like what's the point when it doesn't seem to fix anything? ig people's leave of mind. idk i just don't really get it
