Overtime I used to find ways that'd help from going away from it, I kind of started to use my nail and from there I'd use a paint brush so it'd just have a feeling of being there but not doing anything which got progressively easier in due time, the best method that helped me though was doing stuff to distract my hands wether it be playing something since you'd need hands for a controller or so, or even if just drawing and writing down how you felt or feel
