Bipolar Portrayal in Media: Helpful or Triggering?

I love the way they portray the character Ian in the show Shameless. I watched it before I was diagnosed but I always related to that character the most but I didn't know why yet. Definitely brings awareness to bipolar in my opinion! 🙂

There's an episode of Modern Love on Amazon Prime where Anne Hathaway plays a bipolar character. I found it highly relatable and having the person I was dating watch the episode helped them understand my mood swings. For me, I found it more helpful than triggering.

I definitely have mixed feelings about it. it’s kind of hard to watch but relates to me in a way as well. but I appreciate the thought. it helps to get another’s opinion 🙏

Sometimes I feel like maybe it can be harmful, as the media doesn’t always accurately portray bipolar. On the other hand though, it’s good in that it brings awareness to bipolar and helps to kind of change the stigma around it. At least in my opinion.
