Hey I downloaded this app to ask abt some grounding techniques that work for some of you. I’m not really sure what causes me to dissociate, but I’ve completely quit smoking marijuana because it makes it ten times worse. I’ll have days where I’m confident and feel like myself but that can change overnight and I’m a totally different person, living in a haze. When I dissociate I usually overthink and have a different mindset which drives me even more down the rabbit hole of totally loosing my identity. I’ve resorted to self harm, using a kitchen knife to cut my legs, but it only grounds me and makes me feel like myself for the next couple hours. I’ve never really received any treatment for it because whoever I tell tells me I’m crazy or mistakes it for a lack of confidence as I’m usually a pretty confident guy until I dissociate out of nowhere, this is completely ruining my relationship with my family and girlfriend. Whoever takes the time out of their day to read this and help me out I really do appreciate it. It would help a lot to know that someone out there can relate to what I go through.

      @mia.lilli My therapist is also a DID specialist, so that has been world-changing. I still struggle a fuckton, but I can manage my symptoms now in a way I couldn't 9 months ago

      I use cognitive grounding skills personally. Meditation makes my dissociation worse because I retreat internally. I'll play Sudoku, make lists (states ranked best to worse imo, animals A-Z, etc.) County by 7s, look for objects in each color of the rainbow, or just speak to myself and name things around me.

      Hi, I'm so sorry youve been harming yourself :'( What grounds me is watching Bob's Burgers. It's a show that makes me happy and feel calm. I used to listen to asmr but I don't like it anymore. I hope you're doing a little better today. I see a therapist twice a week. He's been a life saver. He specializes in Dissociation so he's qualified to help me. But before I was seeing him I was seeing therapists who didn't specialize in DID or dissociation so as nice and cool as they were, they couldn't help me like my therapist now does.

        @onepawatatime I also quit smoking marijuana. I have a diagnosis of Bipolar with psychotic symptoms and it made things really bad for me to smoke. I quit cold turkey after smoking for 3 years Daily. Today's my 93rd day sober
