How much can you drink before getting sick? I drank one bottle of Mike's hard lemonade tonight after eating three donuts, and I feel nauseous. Should I wait a while after eating before I drink anything? Or should I just not drink at all? Recommendations?

@Skittles22 it can all be made gluten free. ☺️ I know it seems VERY daunting at first. I’m only 8 months in, but what a crazy good difference it has made. Feel free to PM me if you want some recipes. Or have any questions.
Alcohol and sugar are no-go for gastroparesis, so that’s probably what upset it. Also my GI has me wait 30 minutes between eating and drinking anything which tends to help

@100Percent_K I was told not to drink but I just turned 22. I gotta live a little, you know? But it also sucks 😫

@Skittles22 I hear you, but at what cost? I gave up drinking at 22 because it was far more detrimental to my body and existence then “living a little” for a night. Quality of life is something you really need to consider and remember.
I would recommend cutting out the gluten. As it starts to digest, gluten looks like foreign DNA. With an autoimmune disease (like gastroparesis) your body sees foreign DNA and overreacts to the extreme.

@Alfubet 😱😭 but everything good has gluten in it
Are you prescribed Reglan yet ?
@Bigdaddyc9 maybe? What's the generic name for it?
@Bigdaddyc9 afraid of reglan
I would say not having enough protein on your stomach is probably what caused the upset. Sugar is one of those things that can cause discomfort for gastroparesis, so the combo of that and the alcohol is probably what pushed it over the edge. I do best if I have eaten a full meal or have had something high in protein and sodium before I drink. I typically can’t do more than 3 drinks before my stomach starts trying to spasm, so just pay attention to what your body is telling you and go from there. Best of luck!
@chronicallyfab thank you! I'm still pretty new to having gastroparesis and am trying to get the ropes of it. It's been difficult. I just turned 22 yesterday, so it's a bit hard to avoid alcohol. I'm not an excessive drinker, I wasn't before I got diagnosed either. I just am having a hard time knowing my limits and what works best if that makes sense.

It varies from person to person how much one can drink before getting sick. Factors such as individual tolerance, body weight, and food intake can influence this. It's generally a good idea to eat before drinking alcohol, but you may want to wait a bit after eating to avoid feeling nauseous. If you're unsure about your tolerance or how alcohol affects you, it's best to drink in moderation or avoid it altogether.
